Rush of Remembering – Mr. Men Books

il_570xN_382562630_oktc

Totally Vintage has these 15 Mr. Men Books for sale.   Oh my, I had forgotten these books, but I loved them when I was little.  I loved the drawings.  Just simple shapes made into characters.  Maybe it is because I never learned to draw anything more complicated than basic shapes.

I have never come across these gems in my treasure hunts.  I want one just to read it one.  I specifically remember Mr. Noisy.

Did you ever read them?

Thrifty Finds – May 7

Oil cans

This past weekend my Mom and I headed an hour north to the small town of Hazen.  There were 65 garage sales being held on Saturday. We hit almost 40 sales. Surprisingly many had baby clothes and items. I had thought that Hazen was an “old” town, but it is growing with young families.  Then we headed further north to Garrison for an auction sale.  It wasn’t a great one, but it was inside, so we could sit and visit about all of the interesting items.

I snatched up these oil cans.  Love the strange tip on the one and the red base on the other.  They need to be cleaned up, but then I want to go to Pinterest to see what others are doing with oil cans.

Homies

I have never heard of Homies, but when I saw a box of over 200 figures, I decided to buy them and try an auction on Ebay.  I normally don’t sell too much there, and rarely do an auction, but I just couldn’t decide how much a box of these Homies would sell for.  My Mom and JV were patient enough to set them up for a photograph.  Thanks.

springs

I have been wanting springs for a while, but never see them, until now. Check out Rusty, Crusty, Dirty Creaky Springs for 20 Ideas for old bed springs.  My favorite is the rustic vase or the recipe holder.

Brass Glob

Look at this brass piece.  It feels so “library”.  Yes I love books and anything to do with books and the library.

Clarinet

This is my second piece this weekend where I ventured into something new…a musical instrument.  I have never purchase a clarinet before, but I think this will sell.  If not, I recently saw someone make a lamp out of a clarinet. That might be fun to try.  Unfortunately I did not keep the website to show you.

Blue glass pitcher a

I love blue.  This pitcher is stunning.  I have not been able to find the manufacture of it.  I am thinking Anchor Hocking, but I can’t find it or the pattern name.  I only found a couple on Ebay or Etsy and none of them have the manufacture.  One listing state that it was a honeycomb pattern, but I don’t think so.  If you know anything about it, please let me know.

We found more items, but those were the only ones I had time to get ready for this post.  Busy finalizing our schooling year and planning for the next year.  My oldest will be a senior and the other will be a freshmen.  So I officially only have high-schoolers.  That simply sounds strange.

So are you finding good items at garage sales?

Featuring Retro Wifey

Do you remember Wooly Willy.  I had this growing up; I loved it.  You would use the included pen to move the magnetic shards around Willy’s face.  You could give him hair, mustache, side burns, whatever.  It was so entertaining.  Why?  Not sure, but for some reason I don’t think kids today would enjoy it…too simple.

I don’t normally feature someone’s Facebook page, but I found Wooly Willy through Retro Wifey. She has a Facebook page, Retro Wifey that I started following about a month ago, and I totally enjoy her posts.  She posts many photos of retro vintage items, shows, recipes.  Brings back memories.  So check her out on her blog or her Facebook page.   I bet you will have the rush of remembering too.

Do you have a favorite Facebook page you love to follow?  If so, share it so I can check it out too.

Painted and Refurbished Furniture Pricing

My love of spray painting and refurbishing lead me to my love for vintage pieces. Unfortunately I do not paint items as much as I would like, but when I do I always struggle with pricing the piece if I plan to sell it. I try to keep my prices reasonable but the time it takes to find, clean, fix and paint the item can add up. Another thing most people don’t realize is the time it takes to keep up on the latest trends of paint color and painting techniques. Most people who repaint furniture and sell it for a living spend time researching, learning and keeping up with what their customers want.

I came across this blog post, What Determines the Price of Painted Furniture by The Magic Brush Inc about pricing of repainted furniture. I just had to share it. The gray side table above is one of her repainted pieces.

I, too, hope more people try painting furniture and other wood pieces. However, if you do decide to buy a redone piece, please know there was a ton of time and love put into it.  It probably is underpriced, so go ahead, support the small business and labor of love.

Have you repainted a piece of furniture, sold it and felt you lost money on it?  I would love to hear about it.

Featuring – Eco Chic Boutique

I mentioned in a previous post that I was able to stop at a new store this past weekend when I was in Fargo, ND for my son’s swim meet.  It is called Eco Chic, a Green Boutique.  It is one, awesome place.  I met the owner, Maria, while there.  She was an amazing lady…very friendly and passionate about what she does.  If you read her About page you will get an idea of what she is like.

Eco Chic started out as a green company, especially for baby and Mother.  In North Dakota those types of products can be hard to find except on the internet.  She expanded her lines, and then added repurposed, painted furniture.  That is how I heard about the store.  They carry Annie Sloan paint.  As far as I know there is no other place in North Dakota where it can be purchased. I have been wanting to try that paint.  We left a little early, just so I could shop at Eco Chic.  I was not disappointed.  The store has a hip, clean feel.  It is bright, colorful and friendly.    I spent some time talking with Maria who showed me the Annie Sloan paint.

Eco Chic

Yes, I bought two, smaller size paints, Louis Blue and Old White, along with the Clear Soft Wax.  I can’t wait to try it. Unfortunately I don’t have a great place to paint in the winter time, so it might have to wait a while.  However, I will try it before I go back to Fargo, and I am sure that Eco Chic will be on my “places to stop” when I go there.

So if you are in Fargo, make sure you check it out.  There really is something for everyone, even your pets.

Just a side note.  I ended up getting the virus my oldest had, not the influenza.  I was so sick all day yesterday.  Today I am much better, just not a lot of energy.  My oldest still isn’t back to his normal self, and it has been 5 days.  All I know is that next week just has to be better. Stay well.
