Yes, Christmas is over. I won’t get into the fact that the minute Dec 25 is over everyone is on to saying Happy New Year. To me it is still the Christmas season, but I get funny looks when I say it to a clerk when shopping.
However, I never found time to show you a mini album I created 6 years ago. Yes, it is old, but it is one of my all time favorite albums that I made. It is entirely from scratch. I took a small file folder template and cut out pages. Then I covered and layered them with paper, photos and embellishments. Yes, there are mistakes such as having Christmas 2005 one direction and Traditions another direction, but I do not care. This shows some traditions we created in our little family. Some no longer are being done. (No sugar cookies with milk left for Santa this year, sigh, sniff.)
We make sugar cookies for the season, and a Ukranian meal for Christmas Eve. (Still do those. Both of my Mom’s parents were from the Ukraine.)
We have a special breakfast of wheat with honey. (Forgot to do that this year.) In Boise, we rarely had snow for Christmas, so that year it was a treat. (This year we had a brown Christmas in North Dakota, which was a treat.)
We used to light our Advent wreath all month long. This year the boys didn’t want to do it. However we did trim our tree over Thanksgiving weekend as we have since we got married 21 years ago.
The boys used to always write a list of things they wanted Santa to bring. Not only do they not believe in Santa, they did not even have anything they really wanted. It was hard to find anything to purchase for them. They either are really spoiled or content with what they have. I will go with the later.
I always make the boys put all their gifts in a pile so I can take a picture of all their “booty”. (I still made them do this but it was a small pile.)
No, this album isn’t perfectly made, but it is perfect in the memories it brings back. I love it so much that I am putting on my list of things to do next year…create traditions album in December. I think it will be fun to see all of the changes. After all my oldest is going to be gone in a few years, and I want to capture the memories before I forget and life changes again.
Do you do mini albums?
