Thrifty Vintage Finds – Feb 15

Hope you had a wonderful Valentine’s Day.  I sure did.  I received flowers, and since my husband works about 45 minutes away we rarely go out for lunch. He had to work in town today so we had lunch at The Lodge.  Yummy nacho appetizers for free, and then a bunless hamburger (which I took home half.)  Definitely a nice lunch date.  We rented Zookeeper from Redbox for free and watched it as a family in the evening.  If you like Kevin James, you will enjoy this movie.  Cute.

Haven’t shared any vintage finds lately, mostly because there has not been much in the thrift stores. Also with my oldest in high school swimming and my younger boy in middle school basketball, I have not had time to go to any auction sales yet.  I hopefully will hit one or two in March.  But for now I had to show you this Coke bottle.  You know I am a Coke drinker.  My favorite is the real thing…full-sugared, but I usually drink Diet Coke with Lime. I should not be drinking High Fructose Corn Syrup, since I am allergic to it. Not only is it bad for you, my stomach can’t handle it.  But I can still decorate with it, right?  I decided to get this bottle and plan to use it in spring decorations.

I see these old time hem measurers around.  I am looking for ideas on how to use it in decor or upcycle it. If you have seen a cool idea, please leave me a comment.  I want to check it out.

These 70’s wall hangings are going into my shop. I am slowly listing items, but just not fast enough.  Still selling items at a good pace for me.

I haven’t decided what I am going to do with the train case. My Mom had one that was gray when I was young.  She didn’t travel often, but when she did, that case went with her. I wonder if she still has it?  This one is in great condition.  So I can’t decide if I am going to sell it or keep it for some type of storage for sentimental reasons.

So have you found some good vintage items lately?

  1. Hi Karen:
We have a train case, probably not as old as the one you have posted, but very similar to yours. It has been around my entire life. My mom had a set of green luggage and the train case was part of the set. I do not know what happened to the rest of the luggage but my daughter uses the train case to store some clippers, combs and other things for getting her cattle ready for show. It fits perfect in her tack box and is easy to carry around. I know this isn’t the most glamorous job for this vintage piece of luggage but at least it is being used.

    • Thanks for commenting on my blog post. I love comments. They make my day. So cool that you have had one around for your life too. Love how Brittany is using it now, glamorous or not, a very cool use.

I love hearing your thoughts, please leave a comment.
