Thrifty Finds – July 13

tin man

I have not been able to go to many garage sales in the past 30 days. I have hit one auction sale, that was ok, but not great.  Well this weekend my son has a swim meet in town so I will volunteer to work it. I knew I wouldn’t have time again, so I went out for 1.5 hours on Friday morning.  Most of the items were way over priced, but I did manage to find a few items.

This tin man create with different size tin cans is so unique I just had to buy him.  Haven’t decided if I will keep him to hang for Halloween or not.  I like different, unique, but cute items.  This one fit the bill.

Pink Damask Napkins

This one I need your help.  It is a Pink Damask Napkin set from Penneys.  They have never been open.  So would you open them to take photos to sell or leave as is and try to get some better photos?  I don’t want to open them since they are new, old stock.  However, I just don’t know that any one will buy them if I can not get a good photo.  Any suggestions? Edited:  I did list it after taking photos of it still in the package.  If you want to see how I took the photos check out the listing.  It has been sold.

Wood Divided Bowl

Found this divided wood bowl that I want to redo.  Haven’t decided the color yet, but it will make a lovely center piece.

Blue Samsonite Suitcase

You know me, can’t leave a hard shell suitcase behind.  This one isn’t in the best condition on the outside but the inside is spotless.

Fan

Finally this fan.  Haven’t had an old fan for over a year.  Love the look and shape of these old fans.  Seems that others do too.  Need to get this listed soon while it is still hot.

So did you have a change to go searching for thrifty finds this weekend?

Thrifty Finds – Jan 20

Potbelly finial a

I have not been to a garage sale since September; there are none in my area.  We might start seeing some in late April, but right now it is just too cold.  We are supposed to have about -45 degrees with wind chill tonight.  Yes that is a negative.  So it is cold here right now.  Definitely not garage sale weather.  I also haven’t been to an auction since October.  There actually have been a couple of indoor auctions lately, but too busy with my boys’ swim and basketball seasons to be able to attend.

I have been thrifting in my garage.  I hadn’t put away several items from last fall, so I am slowly getting them cleaned up and listed. The finial stop top piece above is a fun, ornate item that would be fun to repurpose.

Pot Belly Lid a

Because I love old rusty pieces I picked up this Pot Belly Stove Damper.  This would be cute in an old farm display.

Desk Lamp c

I also pick up old desk lamps when I find them.  I have sold a few, so I recently listed this Desk Lamp.  I actually would like it, but I do not know how to rewire a lamp. It works as it, but I would prefer it to have current cords.  Maybe that needs to be something I learn to do.  Another to do item.

High Ball Glasses Stars c

I usually have great luck with old glasses so I listed this Atomic Highball Glass set.  I like the slender look of these glasses.

GM Roly Poly glasses d

These Roly Poly Silver Rimmed glasses were from General Motors. They were given to employees for years of service.  I only have 5, but they are fun for any car enthusiast.

Blue Suitcase Trunk a

Finally, I keep listing my suitcases as I find boxes for them. Large boxes can be hard to find.  I usually ship them parcel post so that I can keep the shipping to around $20. This Blue Speckled Trunk is funky.  It is large and would make a great piece to store items, yet be decorative as well.

My sales are consistently about 1 item a day which is my goal.  I find that if I keep listing one or two items every day or two, my sales stay consistent.  It has been hard with the illnesses in our house, sports schedules for the boys, longer working hours for Big M and semester end for school.  I am looking forward to listing more and blogging more as I can.

Are you able to find time to thrift?

Thrifty Finds – Dec 19

Brown Hardshell Suitcase a

I haven’t had a thrift find report lately.  I have been hunting for items in my garage and storage area to list to my Etsy Shop.  I continue to enjoy finding suitcases. The one listed above sold in just a few days.

Janet Lennon Dolls a

I found this Janet Lennon Stand Up Paper Doll set in the bottom of a box.

Janet Lennon Dolls d

Look how adorable the clothes are.  It brought back memories of the Lawrence Welk Show.  My parents used to watch it on Saturday evenings after they finished milking cows and they were getting ready to go out on a night on the town.  I loved watching Mom dress and my Dad shave with his Old Spice aftershave.

Mod Ice Bucket a

This mod ice bucket has a wonderful design.

Michelob Pitcher a

Superbowl Sunday will be coming up so the Michelob Pitcher might be a great thing to serve the beer in.

Pyrex Casserole Cradle a

Of course I found some Pryex.  This Bluebird Promotional Pyrex Casserole with cradle is so pretty.

Pyrex Turquoise Casserole a

Or this primary Blue Pyrex Casserole is just gorgeous.

Glass Cake Pedestal a

Or this stunning cake or cupcake glass pedestal plate

And I started with a suitcase, so I had to finish with a typewriter; one of a few others items I just can’t resist buying.

Royal Electric Typewriter c

Normally I go for manual typewriters, but this one is a Royal 1970s electric typewriter that still works.  I just know there are people out there that want to have an electric typewriter.  Just couldn’t let it go in the trash.

So there you go, many of my thifty finds that I am digging out of my own stash. I bought these items this summer, but never had time to do anything with.  There are a few inches of snow on the ground, so there are no garage sales or auction sales.  But that is ok, I get just as excited to find a treasure that I had forgotten as when I first found it.

Do you forget you have some of your thrifty finds?

Thrifty Finds – July 19

Working really hard on doing inventory all my latest purchases.  However today I took a break at 5pm because there was a garage sale not far from me.  I live at least 5 miles to the most northern part of town, nothing is ever close for me.  This one was just a mile from me in rural Bismarck.  Glad I did.

Yes I found another suitcase.  If you follow my blog you know I love old suitcases.  Thanks to my friend, Kristi, from Traveling Trunk.  This one is amazing.  It is Samsonite Style 4637.  But look inside.

It is so clean it has the doors to hold the items in each side, plus 4 hangars.  This one is so cool.

Found this awesome creeper stool. Not sure if that is what it really is called or not, but just fell for this little guy.  I think it is the wheels on any creeper that always get me.

Very inexpensive box of old wood hangars.  There are some really old ones in there.

And a box of flatware.  The price was right so I thought I might have fun looking for silver, bakelite and other old, interesting pieces.  If I do not find anything I will donate it all to the local thrift store.

I don’t think I have shown you this lovely Chip Bowl.  Love the design.  It is Espanol from Anchor Hocking.

Recently picked up these.  The auctioneer said their were Industrial bread pans.  But I am not sure.  They would make lovely shelves on the wall or a great storage piece in a craft room.

It easily hit a hundred degrees here today.  I am sure it was hot where you are too.  Don’t forget to keep drinking lots of water.

Thrifty Finds – July 15

I just had to show you a teaser of the items I picked up on Friday at the garage sale by Lydia, the 93-year-old woman.  It is a galvanized, square tub full of items.  I still haven’t had any time to go through it.  So every spare minute I have this week, you can bet I will be working on going through it.  The best part is this isn’t it.  I got several more items.  So today I thought I would show you a couple other items.

I got this suitcase from Lydia.  You can’t see it, but her husband’s name is printed on the outside.  She told me he died in 1992 due to complications of MS.  I have listed a couple of suitcases and they have sold well, so I need to get this one listed.

I got this suitcase about 10 days ago at an auction sale.  It even has the key, but it does have a musty smell, so I am working on airing that out.  Got to get this one listed.  So taking photos of these reminded me of one I got several months ago that got put aside.

Yep, need to get these all listed.  The hard part is finding boxes large enough to ship them in.

I just had to buy Lydia’s magazine rack.  Love the mod look to it.  I am still not into gold, but I know gold is making a come back.

I listed these Bell Quilted Crystal jelly jars that I found last year.  I figured canning season is coming, so I best get them listed.  They are from the 1970s.

I fell for this blue stoneware bowl with a lid.  This was an auction buy.

This Square Red Pyrex bowl was a hidden treasure in a Choice Box at an auction sale.  The item I was wanting wasn’t what I thought, but this guy was at the bottom.  Love happy surprises like that. Pyrex has sold very well for me.  Just sent off the Pink Pyrex bowls I showed you early this month to someone in Montana.  The woman bought it for her sister’s bridal shower who is into vintage and pink.

Look at this Red Wing Pot.  This color does not sell well for me, but I love Red Wing items so I took a chance.

Look at this unique Brass candelabra. It is so heavy  I love the bowl in the middle.  If it doesn’t sell, I might keep it and spray paint it.  Is it a crime to paint brass?

I will finish this post with this last item for today.  I love this cast iron implement seat.  I do not know if it came from a tractor or something like a rake, but I snatched it up at an auction for a steal.

I am looking forward to showing you all my goodies as I go through them.  Did you find any bargains this week?
